ToGather Homes: Building Affordability, Together
Across Europe, affordable housing is one of the defining challenges of our time. ToGather Homes is on a mission to tackle this head-first.
What if every trip to the supermarket could be both budget-friendly and planet-friendly? For Portugal’s Super Save, that question became the starting point for a quiet revolution in how people shop for groceries.
Launched with a simple goal – helping consumers find the cheapest prices across supermarkets – Super Save quickly gained traction among cost-conscious shoppers. But when the startup joined the EIT Community New European Bauhaus (NEB) Catalyse Programme in 2024, their mission began to evolve.
“We realized we could help people save money and make better choices for their health and the planet,” the team recalls.
Through mentoring, workshops, and visibility support under the EIT Community NEB’s programme, Super Save refined its vision: to move beyond price comparison and become a guide for sustainable, healthy, and local shopping. With encouragement from EIT Food experts, they expanded their integration with the Open Food Facts database, began highlighting Portuguese products to support local commerce, and developed features that promote eco-friendly and health-conscious alternatives – all without losing sight of affordability.
Super Save’s app now compares prices across major supermarkets such as Continente, Pingo Doce, Lidl, Auchan, Mercadona, Intermarché, and Minipreço, while offering new layers of insight into the quality and impact of the products in your basket. Their smart shopping list feature provides personalized recommendations that balance cost, nutrition, and sustainability, turning everyday grocery shopping into a more informed, mindful experience.
Since completing the NEB programme, Super Save has grown rapidly:
Their data now helps other innovators design healthier meal plans and track food trends, showing how one startup’s journey toward sustainability can ripple through the entire food ecosystem.
Perhaps the most striking outcome of their NEB experience wasn’t a technical upgrade, but a mindset shift.
“We discovered a large audience that doesn’t just want the lowest price,” Super Save notes. “They also care about the impact of what they buy: on their families, their communities, and the environment.”
This awareness has shaped Super Save’s evolution into a platform that empowers choice rather than dictates it, helping users understand that a sustainable lifestyle can start with something as small as their weekly grocery list.
The startup is far from slowing down. In the coming weeks, Super Save will launch a new feature that allows users to create virtual shopping lists, track price changes over time, and monitor the impact of their food choices, bringing even greater transparency to the shopping experience.
Super Save’s journey captures the essence of the New European Bauhaus: innovation that’s not just efficient, but meaningful. By reimagining how everyday actions can align with sustainability and inclusion, the team shows that even a price comparison app can inspire citizens to think differently about value, health, and community.
In Portugal’s evolving grocery landscape, Super Save is more than a shopping tool. It’s a reminder that the future of food can be both smart and responsible. And that the small decisions we make every day can add up to a much bigger impact.
